Hello All! I’m participating in the New Year, New Ideas, New Possibilities Linky Party, and I have the wonderful opportunity to have my TpT friend Anna be my guest blogger for today!
So, take it away Anna!
Hi! My name is Anna at Simply Skilled in Second! I am so excited to be a guest blogger for Primary Paradise….What fun!! If you check out my blog, you will find many different activities and lessons that I do in my 2nd grade classroom. I try to be creative and create lessons and activities that my students will have fun with.
I have been teaching for almost twenty years and I get so tired of doing the same things each year, so I always try to freshen things up a bit with some new material each year.
This year my new obsession is… Foldables or Flip-Flap Books as I like to call them! For those of you who don’t know what a foldable or flip-flap book is, let me get you hooked :).
Basically, a foldable or flip-flap book is a smaller group of papers folded in a certain way that allows you to open or close it or flip certain parts of a little booklet to write or show information in a different way.
For example, I was teaching my students about Main Ideas and Supporting Details and for years I have been using the “typical” graphic organizers or webs…and honestly…I am B.O.R.E.D.! LOL! So I created a Layered Book where the students will write the Main Idea on the first page of the layered book and write the supporting details on the following layers of the book. Then they illustrate each page of the book. Of course…I didn’t take a pictures of my little ones creating them, but here is a picture of what it looks like…
I thought I would share this flip-flap book with you as a freebie because I am so excited that Martha allowed me to be her guest blogger…sooo exciting. I hope you like it!!!
I have made at least 25 different types of Flip-Flap books to cover a variety of topics and skills. Usually, the students add them to their Reading Notebook. But I also like to create lapbooks using my flip-flap books. A lapbook is basically a file folder where you adhere all of your different flip-flap books in it.
I just made a new product for my guided reading groups that I have been working on with my class called Guided Reading Flip-Flap Books that has about 20 different flip-flap books in it.
