Freebie: Daily 5 Rainbow Tracker

Hey Friends,

Happy Tuesday! 😀

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I LOVE the Daily 5. It is such a wonderful way to engage students in reading and writing independently while you get to work with small groups.

In my classroom this year, I had used the Daily 5 instead of center time since I couldn’t use it as my entire curriculum for language arts literacy. My students has 30 minutes of Daily 5 time each day, so they would *ideally* get to each area each week.

However, you know how some kids are. I had a few students who would always pick the same one, maybe two, choices. So, I got to thinking. What could I do to easily encourage my students to try to get to all 5 choices?

And then it came to me and I created this cute freebie!

Each student gets their own rainbow tracker chart. At the end of Daily 5 time, they get to color in the one they did that day based on the color the the rainbow. If they decide to do a choice twice in a row, they can, but they just don’t get to color anything in the second time. When they’ve color in the first 5 (red, orange, yellow, green, and blue), they turn it in for you to check it. If you check it and say it’s okay, they get to color in the last part of the rainbow violet that says “teacher check”.

Now what happens next is up to you. You could simply have them take it home and show mom and day, you could give them a sticker or prize, or my personal favorite, they could graph their progress on a classroom wall chart. (Students love to see their progress, and it might motivate other students to try different choices more often.)

Whatever you decide, it should (hopefully) encourage your students to pick all of the choices.

There is also a version that you could use for regular centers as well. You would just fill in the name of your 6 centers.

If you download this and like it, I’d be really grateful if you left me some feedback. 🙂

Have a great rest of your week!
