DIY Wash Your Palms Sign {For the Tropical Classroom} & Class Economy Update

Man, have I been crafty this week!

I have another DIY project to share with you all. 🙂

I was inspired by this pin:

LOVE- make this from stuff at Michaels

When I clicked on the link, I couldn’t find the actual sign to purchase, so I decided to make my own. I am going to hang this sign by the sink in my classroom.

I ran to Michael’s and bought a wooden tray, letter stickers, and a palm tree sticker.

Supplies

Then I got the rest of my supplies: paint, glue gun, wood sealer, and ribbon (I didn’t end up using that ribbon because it was too thick and looked weird, so just ignore it.)

Step 1

First, I painted the whole thing tan. I only had to do 1 coat unlike when I made my READ sign. {Click here} to read about that DIY project.

Step 2

Next, I painted the edge with blue glitter paint. I did have to do two coats with this.

Step 3

Once it was dry, I sprayed the wood with two coats of wood sealer, and then I was ready to start decorating!

I put on the palm tree sticker first.

Then, I carefully put the letters on. I started at the end of the word “palms” and worked backward. After that, I sprayed another layer of clear sealer on to make sure those stickers don’t fall off.

Next, I was ready to put the ribbon on, except this is where I realized that my cute, pink ribbon was too thick and looked ridiculous so…

Slide8

I improvised by braiding some light brown yard and hot gluing it on the back on either side. I let the hot glue dry…

And then Voila! I had my completed “Wash Your Palms” sign! I have to say, I think I like mine better than the original. 😉

This is super random, but I wanted to give you an update on my {classroom economy} that I posted about a little while back. Well, I’ve been hard at work figuring out exactly how it’s going to work in my classroom. I wanted to make sure it would sort of run itself once it was in place. I am sure I will be learning a lot as I implement it this year, but I am finally set on how it’s going to work. Since I had so much interest in it, I decided to post it on TpT. 🙂
