My 2nd Grade Tropical Classroom!

Hi Friends! I am so excited to show you around my 2nd grade tropical classroom! I hope you enjoy! I’m going to get right to it. 🙂

Class Reveal 1

Here’s the outside of my room, ready for some fabulous student work. 🙂

Class Reveal 2

This is the view from my door. I am lucky to have a Promethean Board in my classroom. 🙂 And also LOTS of windows. I’ve never had windows in my room, so I’m thrilled.

Class Reveal 3

This is the view from the other side of the room. I am so excited that I have my Promethean board on one wall and a regular white board on the other. I don’t really have a “front” of the room, but rather each student can see either side depending on what we’re doing. That also means I could display something on both sides so there’s never a student who can’t see.

Class Reveal 4

You might have noticed that there is no teachers desk. Well, this is “my” area I suppose. This is my guided reading table. I put two plastic storage drawers on either side so I still have storage. I am in LOVE with my focus wall board. As you can see, I haven’t added anything yet, but soon it will be full of lots of useful posters and anchor charts. I plan to put LA things on the left and Math things on the right and change it up weekly (ish). Oh, and on my table I put my three little dry erase surf boards. I think they’ll come in handy. 😉

Class Reveal 5

I made these posters to hold the fabulous {Common Core I Can Statements} I got from Cyndie over at Chalk One Up for the Teacher. If you haven’t seen them before, you should check them out. They include every standard, are illustrated, and they’re worth every penny! Here’s come with an adorable poster to hold the cards, but they just didn’t match my theme, so I made these.

Class Reveal 7

Here is my 2nd favorite part of my room. (My first favorite is my library area.) Here you see my {behavior chart} my helper chart, and my birthday board. {Click here} to see how I made the birthday board.

Class Reveal 16

On the other side of my door is my {check out chart}. Notice the random pocket in the sunset. That’s what happens when you don’t plan for extra spaces and you get a new student. 😉

Class Reveal 17

This is my big cabinet next to my desk that I put my schedule and showing my understanding chart. I plan to use this as a quick assessment. Students will either hold up 1,2,3 or 4 fingers to let me know how comfortable they are with new content.

Class Reveal 9

Right next to my cabinet I have my book boxes that I wrapped with duck tape and my {Writing Rubric}.

Class Reveal 10

Here’s my library, which I love! {Click here} to read about how I organize my library.

Class Reveal 11

You can’t see this in my library picture, so I had to post my READ sign. {Click here} for directions on how to make your own. (Don’t you just love the glitter?)

Class Reveal 12

Here’s my calendar area. I found the things on the right {here} and I’m very excited to try them out. (They’re free!)

Class Reveal 13

Here’s our gathering area, daily 5 check in, and word wall.

Class Reveal 14

Here’s an up close picture of my word wall which can be purchased {here}.

Class Reveal 15

Here is my writing/listening area, Daily 5 materials, student mail boxes, and Daily 5/FACE (cafe) boards all ready to go. 🙂 You can see my happy/sad pencil buckets ready to go. This is the best thing ever. They get 2 pencils a day and that’s it. Saves on sharpening during the day, and they’re very careful with their two pencils.

Class Reveal 6

I hung this display inside of my cubbies/closet area where my students will hang their things. I didn’t really have another space to put it, and since it’s long and skinny, it’s hard to get a good picture. However, I LOVE it! When I “catch” a student doing something kind, I’m going to write their name on a fish and put it in the net. Each additional time, they’ll get a sticker on their fish. At the end of the year, they’ll get to take their fish home. 🙂 {Click here} and scroll to the bottom of the post to find out how I freshened up my life saver with some duck tape. 🙂

Class Reveal 8

And last but not least, here are some fabulous things that make my classroom a lot more fun. My Brain Sprinkles and Shh Spray {FREE here}, my Daily 5 and normal quiet signals (read more about them {here}), and my two sided popsicle sticks for randomly picking students.

That’s about it! I am super excited to meet my students this week, and although I only had a few days to get my room together, I’m very happy with it.

I hope you have a fabulous Labor Day and a lovely week!
