Hi Friends! I am joining in with the bright ideas blog hop this month to share an easy, peasy tip to help your Daily 5 Book boxes last a lot longer!

For my book boxes the last two years, I purchased the ever popular Ikea magazine boxes because they’re super cheap and fit my needs perfectly. Who can beat $1.49 for 5?

ikea The only issue? They’re made of cardboard, and I don’t know about you, but even when my firsties and second graders are being careful, they’re pretty rough on… well, everything. So, I knew I needed to do something to make sure they lasted the whole year because I refused to replace them on principle.

The solution?

Duck Tape, of course!

Now, I didn’t wrap the entire box in duck tape because that would take forever, but I did reinforce the bottom of the box.

First, I got a LONG strip like this.

Then, I taped across the bottom where the box is folded together.

This keeps the box from coming apart. You could also tape on the inside as well for extra protection.

Last, I wrapped tape all the way around the box to keep those corners safe.

Here’s the final result with all of the box boxes done.

I alternated colors and put my students’ numbers on the boxes so they were always in the same order, and it was very apparent if they weren’t. (I also put my kiddo’s picture on each of their book boxes, but can’t post a picture of that, unfortunately).

These book boxes held up the entire year!

I hope that you enjoyed my tip!
