In my classroom, I organize my classroom library by IB learner profile characteristic. You can read all about how I organize it here. This makes it easier for me to find books to focus on different learner profile attributes. It also helps students keep the learner profile in mind. Here are 5 excellent books for the IB learner profile trait of being a thinker.

Favorite books for teaching students to be a Thinker

The Amelia Bedelia Series is one of my favorite books to encourage critical thinking skills. These silly books require students to really think about the ways we use words and what they mean.

I love to add poem books to my thinker book basket since most poems require thought and interpretation. I have a variety of poem books. Where the Sidewalk Ends is always an excellent choice.

The Girl Who Thought in Pictures is an excellent book to show how we all think differently. It’s a great way to launch a discussion on celebrating these differences and how they are positives!

What Do You Do with a Problem is an excellent book about thinking and using problem solving skills. Students will love this very relatable tale.

In Not a Box, this is definitely not a box! This is a great story for thinking outside of the box (pun totally intended) and getting creative.
